Les Summers - Memorial

Frank Crookham Program

Les Summers was 94 years old when he passed away on March 15, 2013, one day after his 69th wedding anniversary with his wife, Betty, at his side. Les was also a member of the Caldwell Rotary Club for 69 years at the time of his passing. He had been a very involved member of Rotary in his early years, as well as in his community. He was a Paul Harris Fellow, not only earning one for himself, but also for his wife, Betty, and sons, David and Sam. Les was the president of the club from 1953-54. He was very active in Caldwell in his younger years. He and Betty owned and ran Summers' Office Supply for 53 years before retiring.

Les was involved with the Chamber, Purple Sage Golf Course, Idaho Cripple Children and Adults Easter Seal Society, and had been the president of the Caldwell Memorial Hospital's board, now known as West Valley Medical Center. He was a member of the Caldwell Elks for 71 years and had also been on the Salvation Army Board at an earlier time. In his later years, Les was a proud member of the Caldwell Centennial Band and played a mean snare and bass drum. Needless to say, Les has made his footprint on the community of Caldwell, Idaho and we are proud to have known him.

Jerry Conger Dictionary Program

Jerry-Conger-Dictionaries

Jerry Conger was instrumental in starting the Dictionary Project for the Caldwell Rotary Club. Jerry organized, planned and executed the delivery of dictionaries to every third grader in eighteen schools in Caldwell Idaho and vicinity. Many of these schools are small town or rural schools, and receiving the dictionaries is a high point of their school year. Last year the Caldwell Rotary Foundation continued the dictionary project, naming it the “Jerry Conger Memorial Dictionary Project”. 1,346 dictionaries were delivered to third grade students. These dictionaries are theirs to keep and use throughout their school years.

This year the Caldwell Rotary Foundation, in cooperation with your Rotary Club, delivered dictionaries to this year’s third graders in eighteen schools in Canyon and Owyhee Counties. A dictionary is a gift that can make a difference in a student’s success at school. Funds to support this project are from contributions to the Caldwell Rotary Foundation and are tax deductible. A contribution of $35 will pay for 20 dictionaries. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your kindness and consideration.
